Freedom of expression in the digital era

Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino will partecipate in the event "Freedom of expression in the digital era", the international workshop organised whitin the master study programme "Ethics - Economics, Law and Politics" (EELP) of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
The Professor will give the opening lecture, entitled "Geometry of Power(s) in Digital Context: a constitutional perspective". Lectures by several distinguished spekers will follow on the afternoon of January 20 and on January 21.
Senate Hearing of Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino

Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino has been invited to speak at an informal hearing at the Senate of the Italian Republic, as part of the work of the European Union Policies Committee. The Professor will be heard on the proposal for Regulation 457/2022, the Common Framework for Media Services in the Internal Market, also known as the European Media Freedom Act, whose compliance with the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality will be examined.

Prof. Attorney Oreste Pollicino has been included by Who's Who Legal in its list of Highly Recommended Lawyers in the areas of privacy and data protection, cybersecurity, and IT. Supporting the Effective Implementation of Turkish Constitutional Court Judgments in the Field of Fundamental Rights

On 17 December, Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino will participate in the event “Supporting the Effective Implementation of Turkish Constitutional Court Judgments in the Field of Fundamental Rights” organised in the framework of the Study Visit of the Turkish Delegation to the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. The aim of the project is to contribute to the effective implementation of the CoE standards in the field of human rights, with particular regard to the impartiality of the judiciary. The Professor will report on the topic “Protection of Fundamental Rights in Digital Environment, An overview for Italy and the ECtHR”.
Strolling in the Metaverse

On 14 December, Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino will take part in the event “Strolling in the Metaverse” organised by the research centres “Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies” and “CDS: The Centre for a Digital Society” of the European University Institute, in cooperation with the “Baffi Careffin Centre” of Bocconi University. In addition to giving the introductory greetings, the Professor will join the panel discussion moderated by Prof. Maria Alessandra Rossi, University of Chieti - Pescara, in which both the economic aspects, with Prof. Pier Luigi Parcu, EUI, and the legal aspects of the metaverse will be considered. Together with the Professor, Prof. Lapo Filistrucchi, EUI and University of Florence, Prof. Elda Brogi, EUI, and Dr. Giovanni De Gregorio, Católica Global School of Law, will speak.
World Congress of Constitutional Law

Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino will participate in the “World Congress of Constitutional Law” organised by IACL (The International Association of Constitutional Law) at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. The event, which is held every four years, aims to foster discussion around global issues of Constitutional Law. The Professor will chair the panel devoted to “The principle of the rule of law in the age of digital constitutionalism”, together with Prof. Amnon Reichman, University of Haifa and Berkley Law School, and Prof. Erik Longo, University of Florence.

On 28 November 2022, Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino will take part in the Conference “Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the European Union. Issues of legitimation, fragmentation and unhinging of categories” organised by the University of Pisa as part of the PRIN SE.CO.R.E TECH Project “Self- and Co-regulation for Emerging Technologies: Towards a Technological Rule of Law”. The Professor will give the opening lecture in which he will discuss the issues related to the regulation of digital platforms and the repercussions in the field of digital constitutionalism. The Conference will be chaired by Prof. Elisabetta Catelani, Research Unit Coordinator, University of Pisa, and will conclude with the remarks of Prof. Andrea Simoncini, University of Florence.

Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino has been awarded the “Client Choice” Prize by Lexology, the well-known information platform dedicated to the legal sector. Professor Pollicino received the award for his client care and legal assistance activities, the only italian awarded in the “Data Privacy & Protection” sector. The Professor will take part in the panel on “Regulating online platforms in the EU”, moderated by Dr. Giovanni Trabucco, Bocconi University, Prof. Alexandre de Streel, University of Namur, and Dr. Alina Trapova, University of Nottingham.
