Conference “Surveillance, Democracy, and the Rule of Law”

Professor Oreste Pollicino will take part in the Conference “Surveillance, Democracy, and the Rule of Law” organized by the Department of Law of the European University Institute (EUI) and the University of Portsmouth. The Professor will join the second panel of the day which will be moderated by Prof. Deirdre Curtin, Director of the Center for Judicial Cooperation at the Robert Schuman Centre. The talk will cover reconstruction from a historical perspective of the evolution of the concept of surveillance, starting with the case Big Brothers Watch v. UK.

Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino will attend in the AI360 Summit, themed "Artificial Intelligence for Italy" organized by AI4Business and IIT - Italian Institute of Technology. The Professor will join the Round Table moderated by Alessandro Longo, Director of AI4Business, in which he will discuss the regulation of AI with Dep. Enza Bruno Bossio and Lawyer Guido Scorza, Component of the College of the Italian Data Protection Authority.
Book presentation “Judicial Protection of Fundamental Rights on the Internet”

Professor Oreste Pollicino will present his book "Judicial Protection of Fundamental Rights on the Internet" (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2021) at the European Court of Human Rights on May 30, 2022. The event will take place as part of the ECtHR’s ‘Group on Public International Law,’ founded in 2016, which, among other things, is concerned with the dissemination of valuable insights into the development of international human rights law. Before him, the following prominent scholars have already had the honor of presenting their works: Hélène Ruiz Fabri, Anne Peters, Yves Daudet, Philip Alston, Gerard Neuman, Horatia Muir Watt, Marcelo Cohen, Christine Chanet, Jan Klabers and Joseph Weiler.

Conference “Freedom of Expression in the digital ecosystem: From the “Wild Web” to a European Lex Informatica”

Prof. Oreste Pollicino will take part in the Conference “Freedom of Expression in the digital ecosystem: From the “Wild Web” to a European Lex Informatica” organized by the Center for Parliamentary Studies (CESP) of LUISS University of Rome, together with the Research Center Re:Constitution, the Forum Transregionale Studien, and the University of Copenhagen. The Professor will introduce the first panel of the day on May 16 devoted to "Digital constitutional challenges in a changing global order".
Seminar “La liberté d’expression des magistrats et ses évolutions récentes sur les réseaux sociaux”

Prof. Oreste Pollicino will participate as speaker and moderator at the seminar “La liberté d’expression des magistrates et ses évolutions récentes sur les réseaux sociaux” organized by the National School of Magistracy in France, on May 12 and 13 in Issy-les-Moulineaux. Professor Pollicino, together with Dr. Pierpaolo Gori, Judge of the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation, and the Advocate General of the French Court of Cassation, Annabelle Philippe, will examine the main issues related with the freedom of expression of judges in direct relation with their professional activities.
Consumer Power Project Event

Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino will speak during the Consumer Power Project Event (CEP), a webinar launching the homonymous project created by Euroconsumers and Google that aims to make consumers more aware of their rights. The Professor will take part in the session dedicated to exercising these rights in the digital environment and will explore the issue together with Prof. Elisa Giomi, Commissioner at AGCOM, and Prof. Soledad Atienza, Dean of IE Law School.
Webinar “Servizi cloud, protezione dei dati personali e sicurezza”

On April 28, Prof. Oreste Pollicino will take part in the webinar “Cloud services, data protection and security” organized by Assonime, Associazione fra le Società Italiane per Azioni, for the presentation of the book “Codice della privacy e data protection” edited by D'Orazio, Finocchiaro, Pollicino, Resta, recently published by Giuffrè. The webinar aims to update the latest developments in cloud computing. Professor Pollicino will look at the European dimension, the dynamics of state and digital sovereignty, and the protection of fundamental rights.
Conference “Intelligenza artificiale e smart cities. Sfide e opportunità”

Prof. Avv. Oreste Pollicino will join as speaker the first session of the conference "Intelligenza artificiale e smart cities. Sfide e opportunità”, held by Università degli Studi di Firenze with its Dipartimento di Scienze Giuridiche, Centro di Eccellenza Jean Monnet and Scuola di Dottorato in Scienze Sociali.
The important initiative is the closing event of the activities held within the Phd in Legal Studies for the Project of Excellence 2018-2022 and several eminent speakers will join the discussion. It will take place in Villa Rupoli, Florence, but it will be possible to attend also on line.
